Best-selling author Ryan Holiday once made a promise to himself that he would never refuse to purchase a book that he believed would improve his life.
I believe this commitment is worth making. As a new small business owner, I balance the books by ensuring I remain cost-conscience in other areas: groceries, transportation, business expenses (office rent and the like). This has allowed me to purchase a slew of expensive law books that undoubtedly will pay for themselves. The book in the picture above is one such example.
I understand times are tough right now. But if you have the cash to spare, I endeavour you to purchase a book specific to your profession that would take a necessary skill to the next level. Use this time indoors to improve yourself, so when you return to business as usual or start the hunt for your next job, you will be in a better position than before. Idle pleasures such as watching Netflix and scrolling through Instagram will quickly become habitual if you do not set hard boundaries.
Use this time to become better, not worse. Improve yourself while others laze about. Now is the perfect time.
